This year's summer cruise saw the meeting of One More Knot and Thirty Something on the NW tip of Brittany. One More Knot left Gosport headed west. After a stopover in Torquay we crossed the channel and negotiated a rather hazy Chenal du Four before arriving in Camaret-sur-Mer, within the Rade de Brest.
In the meantime, Thirty Something was making her way up from Les Sables d'Olonne- trying to find the gap in the north westerly winds, passing through the Raz de Sein before waking the crew of OMK in Camaret by crashing around on deck and demanding that the kettle is put on ..... immediately !
After a relaxing day testing the dinghy, visiting the beach, doing a bit of shopping, etc. both boats headed north through the Chenal du Four and east along the North Brittany coast; next stop Lezardrieux.
A very pretty but rocky river estuary led us to an interesting arrival on the pontoons (battling wind and tide). A small beach was soon discovered which provided opportunities for digging, swimming and other games including seeing how far the water pistols could reach.
We then headed north to the Channel Islands, specifically Guernsey. This passage was made mostly under motor due to the lack of wind and mirror like sea. Some confusion reigned due to swopping watches and purses (from French time back to BST and euros to £'s). Victoria Marina provided a base for a couple of days whilst we explored St Peter Port and hired bikes to travel a little further afield.
After an early lunch stop anchored in a small cove on the western side of Sark we negotiated the Alderney Race en route to Cherbourg.
Following a long lunch the following day, the fleet split and went their separate ways - Thirty Something east to St. Valery en Caux, OMK just round the tip of the Cherbourg peninsula to St Vaast before a return channel crossing back to Portsmouth Harbour.
OMK logged 580 nm in 15 days, Thirty Something ? nm (tba by Jane or Richard). On the water photos.
